External Building Cleaning

External Building Cleaning

Facade, cladding, render, stone and brick cleaning for commercial and industrial buildings. DOFF superheated steam, pressure washing and soft washing methods matched to the substrate.

We remove atmospheric staining on heritage stone and biological growth on modern cladding. External building cleaning that protects the substrate while restoring appearance.

Why External Building Cleaning Matters

Protect the Substrate. Restore the Appearance.

External building soiling isn't just an aesthetic issue. Accumulated atmospheric soiling, biological growth (moss, algae, lichen), carbon deposits and airborne contamination can cause long-term substrate damage if left untreated, particularly on natural stone, brick and masonry where biological growth traps moisture and accelerates weathering.

External cleaning also matters for compliance: some leases and building regulations require facades to be maintained in a reasonable condition. Heavily soiled facades can become a liability issue or lead to dilapidation costs at lease end.

Tame Industrial Cleaning matches the cleaning method to the substrate and condition. We use DOFF superheated steam for sensitive materials, soft washing for render and cladding, and pressure washing for hard-wearing surfaces. Where metal cladding or facade elements need selective rust or coating removal, laser ablation may be more appropriate than a full external wash.

Cleaning Methods

Choosing the Right Method for the Surface

DOFF Superheated Steam

Low pressure, high temperature steam. The preferred method for natural stone, heritage brick, delicate masonry and sensitive surfaces.

Best for: Stone, heritage brick, GRP, lichen/moss removal

Soft Washing

Low-pressure water application with appropriate biocides and cleaning agents. Effective for render, painted surfaces, cladding and biological growth.

Best for: Render, cladding, biological growth

Pressure Washing

High-pressure water for hard-wearing substrates like concrete, blockwork and engineering brick that can withstand the pressure.

Best for: Concrete, blockwork, heavy soiling on hard-wearing substrates

Combined Methods

Complex facades often require a combination of methods applied to different substrate areas. We assess and specify the correct approach for each elevation.

Best for: Mixed-substrate facades, complex buildings

Substrates

External Surfaces We Clean

Brick & Stone

Natural stone, facing brick, terracotta and masonry cleaned using DOFF steam or soft washing depending on the substrate condition.

Render & Painted Surfaces

Render, painted render and external painted masonry cleaned carefully to remove soiling without disturbing the surface.

Cladding Systems

Composite cladding, metal cladding panels and rainscreen systems cleaned using appropriate detergents and soft washing methods.

Concrete & Blockwork

Exposed concrete, blockwork and engineering brick cleaned using pressure washing or DOFF steam as appropriate.

GRP & Composite Panels

Glass reinforced plastic and composite architectural panels cleaned using low-pressure methods.

Curtain Walling & Glazing

External curtain walling, structural glazing and large facade glazing systems cleaned at all heights.
